2013 Dallas Area Select Lacrosse Teams

ASA Boys Lacrosse competes at two levels, Competitive and Championship. Both require that we meet the requirements of NTYLL, including residency requirements and USL rules.

Competitive play is for boys looking for the fun of lacrosse with friends in a challenging, yet balanced, environment. Boys of all skill levels are invited to play, and no prior experience is required. The cost is less than either Championship or Select lacrosse. There are unlimited roster spots available (though we may need to ask for help with coaching if things grow quickly!). Games are played against other town & private school teams in the greater Dallas area with similar skill levels, and in Tournaments with competition from a wider area.

Championship play is for boys with prior experience who have shown a willingness and ability to compete at an advanced level of lacrosse. There are generally more practices, conditioning requirements, and added costs. Roster spots are limited and are based on tryouts that happen each fall as the boys enter their new grade levels. Games are played against other town & private school teams in the greater Dallas area with similar skill levels, and in Tournaments with competition from a wider area.

Select (or Club) teams are not affiliated with ASA, NTYLL, or USL and are run by various programs in the DFW area (frequently coaches in other programs). All require try-outs of some sort, significantly higher fees than ASA (Competitive or Championship), and a commitment to travel to tournaments that are usually outside of DFW (though not always). The select programs do not have a regular season or residency requirements, instead they focus on Tournament play. The select programs are considered secondary to the town teams (for Allen this is ASA) so their practices and tournament schedules are in between the Lacrosse seasons.

The below attachment has information about all the major Boys Lacrosse programs in the area. ASA boys have played, or do play, for most all of these programs. No one program is preferred over any other, so please review any program you consider based on your goals for your son.

If your boy is serious about Lacrosse, and you have the means, Select teams are a good way to develop his skills. HOWEVER, Select teams are NOT the only way. Solo Practice with stick skills (e.g. Wall-Ball), practice play with friends, conditioning, and other athletic sports are all good development as well. Like any pursuit, the time you invest is rewarded with performance!
